Okay, so being new to this, this edition of "Ten Smiles" is coming a bit late, and it covers not 1, but 2 weeks from August 2-16th, but enjoy it none the less! Here are some rather recent matters in the McCrory household!
1. Listening to my boys marvel at a thunderstorm we were driving through. Aiden (in reference to the lightning): "Whoa! I just saw one on my side! It almost broke the sky! . . . I Loooove lightening!" Caleb: "Knock, knock . . . lightning . . . come get me!" Thank the Lord for safety getting home! :)
3. Listening to Aiden mimick (or is it mock?) Elias, interpreting Elias' sounds (squeals, cries, grunts) and making up things Elias is supposedly saying. Aiden puts on this little high pitch voice and remarks, "Mommy, Elias says . . . . " I'm not sure which is cuter - the falsetto voice Aiden uses or the interpretations he comes up with!
2. Playing at Mulberry Fields Sprinkler park with Mom2Mom friends! On the way, a butterfly flew into our windshield, thus ensuing a conversation on the well-being of the butterfly.
Aiden: Did she try to fly away?
Me: Yes, she's trying, but her wing is broken.
Aiden: Oh, so she can't fly away?
Me: Yes.
Aiden (very matter-of-fact): She was supposed to stay near her mommy.
Me: Then she wouldn't have been hurt?
Aiden: Right.

4. Another sprinkler park playdate at West Park where we met up with some MOPS friends. The boys enjoyed the playground and water while Mom got to catch up with people she has not seen all summer . . . smiles all around!
5. Aiden and Caleb got to have some hang out time with Daddy while building a toy power boat. Thanks to Lowes for providing these great (and free!) workshops TWICE a month! The boys love their creations and the bonding time can't be beat!
6. Watching Elias try to jump for the first time! I have no idea where he came up with the idea (other than watching his brothers), but without prompting he began squatting down then springing up while raising his arms. Granted, he can't get any air beneath his feet yet, but at 14 months old, I'm quite impressed! His grins are so worth it too!
7. A new (to me) dishwasher! Sorry, this one isn't expressly about the boys, but it was cute how they had to "inspect" Daddy's work after he was finished! So cute to see all three boys crouching on the floor to look under the unit. Plus, major props to Dale for doing an excellent job installing this dishwasher - with no prior experience! As for me, I'm glad to have help in the kitchen again after hand-washing everything since our old dishwasher broke early July.
8. The boys got to learn slip-and-slide! Thanks to a $2.50 deal at Target, the boys were given an easy opportunity to learn this art . . . and they loved it! Elias was sleeping at the time . . . I can't wait to see him try too! :)
9. The State Fair! I decided to brave it by myself with all three boys while Dale was at work because it was such a beautiful day! The boys had a great time and loved seeing the animals and attractions. We happened to chance into front row seats for the Peking Acrobats (we were taking a break eating a snack there when people started arriving and getting seats - 40 minutes before show time!). We decided to wait it out, the boys did fabulous, and they were all mesmerized by the stunts performed!
10. Again at the State Fair . . . Elias getting up close and personal with a goat! He loves animals anyway, so it was no surprise he was thrilled by this goat in the petting/feeding area. One particularly bold goat was obviously hungry and thought Elias' shirt (with all it's spilled food) would be tasty. Well the goat starts biting at Elias' shirt, and the next thing I see is Elias lunging toward the goat - mouth open . . . not sure if he was planning to bite the goat back or kiss it, but I didn't want to find out!
11. okay, one more. watching Elias' reasoning skills emerge . . . and wondering if he is going to become our organizer and/or pack rat! He has recently developed a love for opening things and "putting things away," whether it goes there or not! He also has decent memory skills . . . I found him this morning trying to slide a book and toy camera under the dishwasher - remembering that it was open before Daddy put the faceplate on after installing it last weekend. He is always quick to check something out too - - if he see us looking for something under the couch, bed, etc, he is immediately down on the ground looking too! So cute!
